Ruben Rubinyan, Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, called the fact that peace with Azerbaijan has not yet become complete and irreversible one of the main risks for his country's security.
Modern.az reports that he said this while answering a question from Kristine Vardanyan, a deputy of the "Hayastan" faction in parliament, regarding the sources of danger for Armenia.
According to Rubinyan, one of the main threats for Armenia is that peace with Azerbaijan has not yet acquired a fully institutional character.
"There is peace with Azerbaijan, but this peace is not yet irreversible and fully institutionalized. In other words, the absence of full peace with Azerbaijan is a serious threat to the security of the Republic of Armenia," he said.
The speaker added that the closed border with Turkey and the absence of diplomatic relations between the two countries also create economic and diplomatic risks for Armenia.
Rubinyan also listed the insufficient diversification of Armenia's economic ties, security cooperation, energy sources, and transit routes as potential threats.
According to him, the government's goal is to eliminate existing risks.
"We see these threats and want to eliminate or neutralize them. We intend to turn peace with Azerbaijan into an irreversible and institutional peace," Rubinyan emphasized.
Touching upon relations with Turkey, he stated that Armenia continues negotiations for the opening of borders and the normalization of relations.
In his speech, Rubinyan also criticized Russia's restrictions on the import of Armenian products, evaluating it as an example of economic pressure on the country.
