The number of abortions in Azerbaijan has sharply increased.
Modern.az reports that in the last 15 years, the number of abortions in Azerbaijan has increased by 30%. Last year, 95,875 births and 95.1 thousand abortions were registered in Azerbaijan. This means that for every 100 babies born in the country, there are 99 abortions.
Interestingly, in Russia, where more than 1 million abortions were registered in 2010, the number of abortions decreased by 64% to 235 thousand in 2025. Last year, 11,800 abortions were registered in Georgia, which means a 26% decrease. Abortion statistics in Armenia also amounted to 18.7 thousand and decreased by 23%.
In fraternal Turkey, as in Azerbaijan, the number of abortions has increased in the last 15 years. Last year, 74 thousand abortions were performed in the country, an 80% increase compared to 2010. The Islamic Republic of Iran is also among the countries where the abortion trend is increasing. In Iran, it increased by 61% to 305.2 thousand last year.
