The agreement for the sale of HÜRJET, Turkey's first national training aircraft, to Spain is an important indicator of the progress we have achieved in the defense industry and high-technology sector over the last 20 years.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Haluk Görgün, Chairman of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) of Turkey.
He described the signing of the 2.6 billion Euro agreement with Spain for the sale of 30 HÜRJET aircraft as a successful outcome of the state policy implemented under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Görgün noted that the domestic production rate in the Turkish defense industry has reached 82-83 percent, stating, "This export came with a product that we produced and developed with our original design. In addition to TUSAŞ, there are approximately 200 companies that contributed to the creation of this successful product. Each of them undertook serious responsibilities and fulfilled them in the best possible way, developing a combat training aircraft needed worldwide."
Görgün explained that TUSAŞ had previously received orders for HÜRJET aircraft for Turkey's needs and that production was ongoing. He also stated that they had received similar requests from friendly and allied countries, the European Union, and NATO.
"We are pleased and proud to export such a high-tech product to our ally Spain, a European Union and NATO country. This agreement is not merely a training aircraft contract. It is a comprehensive agreement that includes many innovations, such as ground systems, simulation systems, maintenance systems, and a cooperation model. This agreement is significant because it indicates that our cooperation with Spain in the defense industry and high-technology sector will continue to grow and strengthen. In this regard, I would like to thank the Spanish Ministry of National Defense and the Air Force Command for choosing our aircraft."
