A new decision has been made regarding approaching the famous Trevi Fountain in Rome, where tourists usually throw coins.
According to Modern.az, under the new rules, those wishing to enter the fountain area between 09:00 and 22:00 will have to pay 2 euros.
Children under five, persons with disabilities, and residents of the city of Rome are exempt from this payment. During night hours and early morning, it will still be possible to approach the fountain for free.
According to the city administration's calculations, 6.5–20 million euros in revenue will be generated annually from ticket sales. The collected funds are planned to be directed towards maintenance costs and staff salaries.
The coins thrown into the fountain by tourists will, as before, be handed over to the Catholic charity organization “Caritas di Roma”.
It should be noted that approximately 1.5 million euros worth of coins are collected from the Trevi Fountain each year. These funds are said to be used to help people in need.
