The new leadership of the chess world may pass to a young Turk.
Modern.az reports that the candidate for the new leadership of chess is 20-year-old Javakhir Sindarov from Uzbekistan, an ancient Turkic land and a member of the Organization of Turkic States.
He won one of the main chess tournaments held every two years - the "Candidates Tournament" - with a big difference one round before the end.
With his victory, Sindarov earned the right to face the current world champion, 19-year-old Gukesh Dommaraju from India.
Norwegian chess player, 5-time world champion, grandmaster Magnus Carlsen also praised Sindarov's performance, saying that he had never had such a magnificent tournament.
It should be noted that the exact date and venue of the classical world chess championship match in 2026 have not yet been officially announced by FIDE. However, according to the chess calendar, some information is available. Thus, a new world chess championship format will be implemented starting from 2026. This format will include four tournaments (classical, blitz, and rapid) and the total prize fund will be close to 3 million dollars.
