Kyrgyzstan hands over SCO chairmanship to Pakistan

Kyrgyzstan has completed its chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and handed it over to Pakistan.

Modern.az reports that this was announced based on the results of the meeting of the heads of state of the SCO member states held in Bishkek.

Kyrgyzstan chaired the SCO in 2025-2026. The main outcome of the chairmanship was the jubilee summit dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the organization. The Bishkek Declaration dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the SCO and more than 30 documents were signed at the summit.

The “24.kg” portal writes that the adopted decisions cover issues of regional security, combating drugs, artificial intelligence, information security, energy, transport and logistics, climate and biodiversity protection.

The next chairmanship period will be carried out under the leadership of Pakistan. Islamabad must coordinate the activities of the organization and prepare for the next meeting of the heads of state.

In addition, Lahore, Pakistan, has been declared the tourism and cultural capital of the SCO for 2026-2027.
