Former gang leader Duane "Keffe D" Davis, accused of organizing the murder of famous rapper Tupac Shakur in 1996, has been found guilty by court order.
Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that this is the first verdict issued in the murder case that occurred in 1996. The jury found Davis guilty of murder using a deadly weapon.
Tupac Shakur was killed on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas, by gunfire from a moving car.
According to the prosecution, Davis, a former leader of the "Compton Crips" gang operating in the southern part of the city, was the organizer of the murder and gave the weapon to his nephew Orlando Anderson. Anderson is reported to have shot Tupac Shakur.
In a statement to the police in 2008, Davis stated that he was in the car from which the shots were fired, but did not use the weapon himself. His statement was later used as one of the main pieces of evidence in the criminal case.
63-year-old Davis stated that he will appeal the verdict. The court hearing to determine the sentence has been scheduled for October 13.
