Europe is facing an unexpected problem created by an “overly successful” green energy policy. The rapid increase in the number of solar panels has made it difficult for energy grids to manage the volume of electricity produced.

Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that this spring Germany, France and Great Britain recorded record figures for solar energy production. However, the increase in energy production led to electricity prices falling into the negative zone and the temporary shutdown of numerous solar power plants.

According to the information, there is a risk of approximately 40 terawatt-hours of electricity being lost unused in the European Union in the coming months. This amount of energy would be enough to power Greater London for a year.

The problem is also reported to affect investors. The profitability of solar energy projects is decreasing, and the construction of new stations is beginning to slow down.

Experts note that the main problem is not the lack of solar panels, but the lagging energy infrastructure. In particular, the existing capacity of electricity grids and energy storage systems struggles to meet the increasing production.

According to experts, Europe now needs not only new solar stations, but also large investments in battery systems and the modernization of energy grids. Otherwise, a significant part of the clean energy potential will remain unused.
