Iran's consulate in India gave an unusual response to US President Donald Trump's post about the Strait of Hormuz.
Modern.az reports that on the social media account of Iran's Consulate General in Hyderabad, a map of the US was shared, showing California as “the new territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The post read “new territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran” and California was specifically marked on the map.
This step was taken after Trump's August 18 map post presenting the Strait of Hormuz as “new US territory.”
Thus, the Iranian side responded to the US president's statement on territory with an analogous and ironic message.
According to information, the selection of California is also not accidental. The state is home to one of the largest Iranian-American communities in the US. The presence of a large Iranian diaspora, especially around Los Angeles, may give symbolic meaning to the presentation of California as “Iranian territory.”
The confrontation between Iran and the US over the status of the Strait of Hormuz has intensified in recent days. The parties express conflicting positions regarding control over the strategic waterway
