On June 22, 2026, "Meta Platforms" officially announced the appointment of Kunal Shah, founder of India's "CRED fintech" startup, as the global head of "WhatsApp".

Modern.az reports, citing "Bloomberg", that this personnel change is accompanied by a strategic cooperation agreement.

According to the information, "Meta" will invest 900 million dollars to acquire 20 percent of "CRED" shares. After this deal, the company's market value is estimated at approximately 4.5 billion dollars.

In his new role, Kunal Shah will replace Will Cathcart, who led "WhatsApp" for seven years. Cathcart will not leave "Meta" and will lead the company's internal laboratories engaged in the development of artificial intelligence products.

Due to his transition to "Meta", Kunal Shah will step away from the daily management of "CRED", but will retain his status as a key shareholder in the company.

The company also stated that within the framework of the 900 million dollar agreement, "Meta" will not have access to "CRED" user data.

Although claims regarding the matter were not commented on before the official announcement, Kunal Shah's appointment and the details of the deal were confirmed by "Bloomberg" and "Reuters".
