In Uganda, armed soldiers surrounded the offices of "Nation Media Group" (NMG), the country's largest independent media holding, and stopped the broadcasting of television channels. This step was taken by order of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Yoweri Museveni, the commander-in-chief of the country's Armed Forces.
Modern.az reports with reference to "Daily Monitor" that the operation started at night.
The military surrounded NMG's head office in Namuwongo district of Kampala, as well as the holding's offices in the "Serena" hotel, where part of the editorial offices are located.
Muhoozi wrote on the "X" social network that the TV channels will not resume their activities without his permission.
The general had started threatening NMG a few weeks ago after media outlets belonging to the holding covered the arrest of Kampala mayor Erias Lukwago and other sensitive topics related to him.
