"Nothing has been removed from the text of the Constitution, because we are writing a new Constitution."
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Arusyak Julakyan, a deputy of the ruling "Civil Contract" party, a candidate for the position of chairman of the Standing Committee on State-Legal Affairs, during the discussion of the election of the chairman of the Standing Committee on State-Legal Affairs at the meeting of the Armenian Parliament.
She made statements regarding the preparation of the new Constitution project while answering questions from Anna Grigoryan, the head of the parliamentary faction of the opposition "Armenia" bloc.
"We did not take the current Constitution and remove any provisions from it, nor did we add new ones. We took a blank sheet and started writing the text of the new Constitution on it," Julakyan said.
At the same time, the deputy confirmed that there is no reference to Armenia's Declaration of Independence in the preamble of the new Constitution project.
"Is there a reference to the Declaration of Independence in the preamble intended to be in the project? No. And there shouldn't be. No matter how much you talk and speculate about it, that's how it is," said the deputy of the ruling party.
Regarding when the new Constitution project will be published, the deputy stated that further discussions on the document are still needed, including discussions within the ruling team.
However, Julakyan noted that the text of the project is expected to be published by the end of the current year.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani side demands the removal of the reference to the Declaration of Independence from the Armenian Constitution. Official Baku has stated that it will not be possible to sign a peace agreement without fulfilling this demand.
