Turkish economist Mahfi Eğilmez, based on the “Big Mac” index, calculated that the “real” exchange rate of the dollar according to purchasing power parity is approximately 65 Turkish Liras.
Modern.az reports that the current market exchange rate of the dollar is approximately 47.5 Liras.
According to Eğilmez's calculation, there is a difference of 17.5 Liras between the “real” exchange rate of 65 Liras and the market exchange rate of 47.5 Liras. The economist stated that this difference reflects the extent of intervention in the exchange rate.
The “Big Mac” index is an indicator that compares the purchasing power of currencies by using the price of the same product in different countries.
