Google has failed in its attempt to overturn a record antitrust fine imposed on it by the European Union.

Modern.az reports that the European Court of Justice has rejected the company's final appeal, thus upholding the fine of 4.1 billion euros. The fine was first imposed in 2018 by the European Commission. The regulatory p accused Google of using its dominant position in the market through its Android operating system to strengthen its position. Allegedly, the company encouraged smartphone manufacturers and mobile operators to pre-install Google Search and the Chrome browser, thereby making it difficult for competitors to access the market.

Although Google has made changes to some of its policies in recent years in accordance with the demands of the European Union, the court upheld the decision that the company's past activities violated competition rules. It should be noted that the initial fine was 4.34 billion euros. However, with a decision in 2022, the amount was reduced to 4.1 billion euros. Nevertheless, this remains one of the largest antitrust fines ever imposed by the European Union on a technology company.

Experts believe that this decision once again demonstrates how strict the European Union's stance is in enforcing competition laws against large technology companies. The decision is also considered an important precedent for other technology giants.
