NATO is reportedly preparing an action plan against the possibility of a direct military confrontation with Russia.
Modern.az reports that Germany's Bild newspaper published information about this.
According to the publication, the author of the concept, which reflects the steps NATO will take in a possible conflict, is considered to be US Army Major Andrew Pingree.
According to the information, if a direct confrontation with Russia begins, one of NATO's main priorities will be to prevent Moscow's missile strikes. For this, the alliance plans to use fighter jets, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
It is noted that in addition to preventing possible missile attacks, NATO forces will try to disable the positions where missile systems are located. One of the striking parts of the plan is related to the creation of a special "autonomous zone" in the territories bordering Russia and Belarus.
This area is planned to play a kind of "defense wall" role for NATO. According to claims, unmanned aerial vehicles and autonomous military equipment will be mainly used here. Thus, NATO may try to reduce the direct deployment of manpower to the contact line in the first stage of a possible conflict and establish a technological defense system along the border.
According to Bild, the concept envisages extensive use of unmanned systems for reconnaissance, surveillance, target identification, and strike capabilities. This approach shows NATO's increased emphasis on unmanned and autonomous military technologies in recent years. In particular, the widespread use of UAVs in the Russia-Ukraine war has significantly changed the nature of modern warfare.
Russia, on the other hand, has repeatedly stated that it has no intention of attacking NATO countries. Therefore, the presented plan is not evaluated as the beginning of a real war in the current situation, but as a scenario for the alliance's military response during a possible escalation.
