Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump's senior adviser Jared Kushner have agreed on the complete demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and the disarmament of Hamas. The Israeli side plans to completely withdraw its army from Gaza following this.
Modern.az reports that Ynet reported this, citing Israeli sources.
According to the information, the agreement was reached as a result of a four-hour meeting between Netanyahu and Kushner. The meeting discussed the implementation of the Peace Council's plan for regulating the situation in Gaza. According to the source, the reconstruction of Gaza can only begin after Hamas is completely disarmed throughout the entire territory of the enclave.
Netanyahu insisted that in the first phase of the process, Hamas members hand over their weapons to Jasper Jeffers, the commander of the International Stabilization Forces in Gaza. This process is expected to be overseen by the United States.
The source in the Peace Council stated that the parties identified the complete disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip as the ultimate goal. After this, the complete withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces from Gaza is planned.
According to him, Hamas must take concrete steps towards disarmament in the coming weeks.
Israel also demanded the retention of its military positions along the “yellow line” separating the territories controlled by the parties. At the same time, the ability to prevent potential threats against Israeli soldiers was also demanded. The meeting also paid special attention to the risk of a sanitation disaster in the Gaza Strip. The parties agreed to develop measures to prevent the spread of epidemics, as well as the pollution of groundwater and coastal waters. According to the Israeli side, the negotiations were held in a positive atmosphere.
In addition, Israel stated that it would not support measures that would lay the groundwork for the creation of a Palestinian state. The US side, on the other hand, announced its intention to ensure the implementation of the agreements reached.
