The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs protested to Japan's ambassador to Russia, Akira Muto. Modern.az reports that this was stated in the information of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The protest was made due to the statements of the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Japan against Russia regarding the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Iturup island.
"The Russian side declared that Russia's sovereignty and jurisdiction over the Southern Kuril Islands are inviolable. Attempts by the Japanese side to directly or indirectly question this obvious reality are completely unacceptable and illegal," the statement said.
The ministry noted that Moscow reserves the right to take adequate countermeasures.
