Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has condemned the attack on the office of Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
Modern.az reports that Araqchi shared a post about this on his social media account.
“This reckless attack against Prime Minister Barzani’s office cannot be justified by anything,” the Iranian Foreign Minister said.
He called on the Kurds to be careful against provocations aimed at creating confrontation between neighboring countries.
“Our Kurdish friends must be vigilant against provocations aimed at sowing discord between neighboring countries. We have protected our Kurdish friends from the attacks of Saddam and ISIS and we are grateful for the security they have created on our border,” Araqchi noted.
It should be noted that on August 17, the personal office of Masrour Barzani and the residence of the head of the region’s security and intelligence service in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, were attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles. Kurdistan’s security agencies announced that two drones were used in the attack and that they were launched from Iranian territory. There were no deaths or injuries as a result of the incident.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein had a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi regarding the incident and demanded an official explanation from Tehran regarding the attack. The Iranian side stated that it did not have information confirming that the attack was carried out from Iranian territory.
The Iraqi government announced that an investigation would be conducted to determine the source, causes, and parties behind the attack.
