Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented unusual gifts to the heads of state participating in the 36th NATO summit held in Ankara.

Modern.az reports that, according to "Turkiye Today" publication, leaders were presented with revolvers engraved with their names and boxes of combat cartridges.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told journalists that due to the strict legislation in force in his country, the import and private ownership of short-barreled firearms are prohibited, so he will not be able to take this gift to Britain.

According to Starmer, the revolver will remain in Ankara and will be decommissioned. It is reported that Erdogan also presented each leader with a personal letter confirming that the gift is exempt from Turkey's export restrictions. However, this document cannot override the legislation of other countries.

It is not yet known whether other summit participants faced similar problems.

It should be noted that the NATO summit was held in Ankara on July 7-8. This was the first NATO leaders' summit hosted by Turkey since 2004. The meeting discussed increasing defense spending of NATO countries, support for Ukraine, and prospects for resuming the supply of US F-35 fighters to Turkey.
