Former "Mossad" chief David Barnea is alleged to have held a secret meeting with former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2024 and attempted to recruit him for cooperation with Israeli intelligence.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign sources, that according to the allegations, the Israeli side considered Ahmadinejad a potential intelligence asset, taking into account that he could return to the Iranian leadership in the future.
According to the information, on February 28, Israeli aviation struck the area where Ahmadinejad was located. The attack is reported to have targeted the building where his pguards were located and his armored vehicle.
The allegations state that immediately after the strike, a black "Peugeot" car arrived at the scene and removed Ahmadinejad from the area. According to US and Iranian sources, the people in the car were allegedly "Mossad" agents and the former president was taken to a secret safe location inside Iran.
Sources indicate that Ahmadinejad was dissatisfied with Israel's plans to return him to power after this operation and left the safe house. The circumstances under which he later left that location are unknown.
According to the allegations, after the incident, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) learned about what happened and Ahmadinejad was detained. He did not appear in public for a long time and was only briefly seen last week at the funeral of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
