The US Department of Defense will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the issue of ammunition shortages in the country. The decision is said to have been made after President Donald Trump's call to a Pentagon official.

Modern.az reports that NBC News reported this, citing its sources.

According to the information, Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg, who is responsible for supply issues at the US Department of Defense, called senior officials for military and defense procurement to a meeting to be held on Friday evening.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss ways to quickly react to the ammunition shortage in the US army.

NBC News reports that Feinberg took this step after receiving a disgruntled phone call from President Donald Trump.

Earlier, "The Washington Post" wrote that Trump expressed his dissatisfaction to Pentagon chief Pit Hegset about the ammunition shortage, which could limit the operational capabilities of the US in a possible military confrontation with Iran.

CNN reported on August 4 that the US is alleged to have used up to 80 percent of the missile reserves of the THAAD system, which is designed to destroy ballistic missiles at high altitudes during a conflict with Iran.

Pit Hegset, however, criticized this information, calling it false.
