In Baku's Garadagh district, persons damaging historical and cultural monuments have been detained.
Modern.az reports that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has released information regarding this.
It was noted that a group of individuals acting in prior collusion, violating the protection rules of specially protected natural areas by the state, illegally entered the territory of one of the National Historical-Artistic Reserves with the aim of searching for gold. They conducted excavation work at the base of rocks considered cultural heritage within the reserve, attempted to loot items of special material value, and consequently caused the cultural assets to become unusable.
42-year-old Kamil Omarov, 59-year-old Mammadrəsul Ibrahimov, 41-year-old Akbar Akbarov, 50-year-old Niyamaddin Aliyev, and 47-year-old Elshad Isgandarov, suspected of committing the act, have been identified and detained. These individuals also recorded their actions via their mobile phones.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
