An event on the international recognition of the historical and cultural heritage of Caucasian Albania is being held at the Center for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism.
Modern.az reports that Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Center for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism, who spoke at the event, stated that although Caucasian Albania is primarily a historical topic, the political aspects of this issue in terms of international relations and multiculturalism are also of particular importance for the Center.
F. Shafiyev noted that a number of states existed in the territory of Azerbaijan at different times, and each of them left a certain mark on the history of Azerbaijani statehood and the formation of its national identity.
“A number of states existed in the territory of Azerbaijan, and each state left a certain mark on our statehood and national identity. These issues should be thoroughly investigated. Work is underway, books are being published, and other steps are being taken in this regard. But experience shows that when any gap arises here, they take advantage of it,” said the Chairman of the Board of the Center for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism.
He emphasized that it is important to continue research on Caucasian Albania in various directions.
F. Shafiyev, recalling that he is a historian, stated that the study of Armenian-language sources is also of particular importance in the research of Caucasian Albania.
“History is my first profession. I graduated from the history faculty of Baku State University. As a historian, I would like to note that we should follow this direction. The study of Caucasian Albania is also related to the Armenian language. Do we have enough scholars and specialists in this field? Of course, our scholars can answer this question,” he added.
The Chairman of the Board of the Center for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism stated that Azerbaijan's preference for a peace agenda after the Patriotic War is a natural process. At the same time, according to him, the peace agenda should not diminish the importance of researching historical issues.
“After the victory, it seems that we have calmed down a bit. The war is over, we are for peace. Azerbaijan is trying to achieve peace. The President of Azerbaijan, as the main party to the peace agreement, is advancing a stage in this direction. But our history is also important,” F. Shafiyev emphasized.
He noted that issues related to Caucasian Albania should be investigated not only from a historical aspect, but also in the context of Christianity, cultural heritage, and international relations.
“We need to discuss Christianity related to Caucasian Albania and, in general, what directions should be followed in this area,” F. Shafiyev said.
He called on the event participants to share their opinions and suggestions on the topic and noted that it is important to discuss what steps should be taken to research and internationally recognize the heritage of Caucasian Albania.
