Then, Ramil Aghayev, head of the department at the Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS, made a speech and gave extensive information about the history, political geography of Caucasian Albania and the role of this state in the history of Azerbaijan.
Modern.az reports that he stated that Armenians' attempts to claim the material and cultural heritage of Caucasian Albania and present this heritage to the world community as Armenian heritage are related to Armenia's territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
According to him, for this reason, the study of the historical geography and political history of the territory where Caucasian Albania was located is of particular importance.
The scholar noted that, according to ancient Greek and Roman authors, 26 tribes and peoples lived in Caucasian Albania. Among them, Albanians held a special place. R. Aghayev stated that the name of Albanians was first encountered in sources related to the Battle of Gaugamela, which took place in 331 BC between Alexander the Great and the Persian ruler Darius III.
According to him, Caucasian Albania, created by the Albanians, is one of the important states that existed in the historical lands of Azerbaijan. This state existed from the 4th century BC to the beginning of the 7th century AD. R. Aghayev noted that the territory of Caucasian Albania was presented with different names in various sources. In ancient sources, Albania, in Armenian sources, Alban or Alvan, in Georgian sources, Rani, in Persian sources, Aran, and in Syrian sources, the name Aran was used.
The head of the department also provided information about the administrative division of Caucasian Albania. He stated that the territory of Albania was administratively divided into various provinces, and these provinces were mainly located on the right and left banks of the Kura River. In his speech, R. Aghayev also spoke in detail about the individual provinces of Caucasian Albania, their history, and their reflection in sources.
