Passenger rail communication between Azerbaijan and Georgia is being restored after a 6-year hiatus. According to the Ministry of Economy, Azerbaijan and Georgia have agreed to resume daily passenger train services on the Baku-Tbilisi-Baku route from May 26.

In a statement to Modern.az, Georgian political scientist Giorgi Gogua stated that the restoration of the Azerbaijan-Georgia railway connection is an important event in terms of the region's transit, trade, and tourism potential:

"This route has historically connected the two main centers of the South Caucasus - Azerbaijan and Georgia, and its re-operation will contribute to strengthening people-to-people ties, economic cooperation, and regional integration.

The restoration of railway transportation is of great importance, especially in terms of tourism. Thus, passengers will again have a comfortable and accessible transport option between Baku and Tbilisi. At the same time, this step can also positively affect trade and logistics ties, creating conditions for further strengthening the position of the South Caucasus as an international transit corridor."

The political scientist stated that he wants to be the first passenger on the train:

"I would love to come to Baku by train. I haven't been to Baku for many years and I would be happy to visit this beautiful city again."
