The reason for the creation and behind-the-scenes details of the date unofficially celebrated as “Baku Day” on July 1 every year have been revealed.

Modern.az reports that the director of the Caucasus History Center, Rizvan Huseynov, shared interesting facts about the history of this day.

The historian stated that the roots of this tradition are not as ancient as thought and were put forward by an Armenian blogger in the virtual world for manipulation purposes.

According to him, the tradition of celebrating July 1 as "Baku Day" was established by a resident of Baku named Artur (Arsen) Petrosyan on the popular Russian social network "Odnoklassniki":

"In 2011, he created a virtual agenda and began to congratulate his former compatriots on "Baku Day" on July 1 every year. This idea quickly spread like a virus on the internet, transcending the boundaries of the social network and being adopted and popularized by other bloggers, forums, and even some Azerbaijani diaspora organizations abroad."

The political analyst pointed out that the Armenian author's choice of July 1 was not accidental, and behind it stood the Dashnak-Bolshevik regime, which committed bloody crimes against the Azerbaijani people:

"The real reason for choosing July 1 as the calendar date lies in the events of 1918. At that time, the Bolshevik-Dashnak leadership in Baku, led by Stepan Shaumyan, resorted to the harshest military measures and repressions against the local population to maintain their power over the city. This is clearly written in Shaumyan's official telegram sent to Vladimir Lenin on July 1, 1918."

Rizvan Huseynov finally added that Artur Petrosyan, who founded this "holiday" and put forward the idea, recently passed away.
