US President Donald Trump made striking statements about possible military operations amid rising tensions with Iran.
Modern.az reports that Trump answered a question in an interview with FOX News about whether the US has plans to take control of the strategic Kharg Island in the Strait of Hormuz, which is controlled by Iran.
"I can't tell you anything about that, because it would be foolish to say so. But such news would not be bad for headlines," Trump said.
To the journalist's question, "Do you rule out the option of a ground operation?" the US President gave a negative answer.
"No, if it is expedient, I do not rule it out. Sometimes a ground operation is necessary. But there are other forces that can carry this out instead of us," Trump emphasized.
It should be noted that tensions between the US and Iran have increased further in recent weeks. Washington's strikes on Iranian military facilities and Tehran's warnings that it would target US interests in the region have increased the risks of a new escalation in the Middle East.
Experts evaluate Trump's latest statement as a message that Washington keeps all military options on the agenda. In particular, the fact that a ground operation is not ruled out is considered a signal that the US is considering tougher scenarios in the confrontation with Iran.
