A US investment fund demanded the payment of debts remaining from the Russian Empire.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that the American investment fund Noble Capital RSD filed a lawsuit against the Russian government in a US federal court, demanding Russia be recognized as the owner of obligations on Russian Imperial bonds issued in 1916.
The Russian Federation, the Ministry of Finance, and the Russian National Wealth Fund are named as defendants in the lawsuit. The disputed amount is 225.8 billion dollars.
As noted by the publication, the investment fund claims that the debt on imperial bonds can be paid from sovereign assets frozen abroad after Russia's annexation of Crimea and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Armed Forces.
The company's lawyers believe that Noble Capital's real chances of recovering more than 200 billion dollars from Russia are quite low.
