Armenia will begin the process of preparing an application for membership in the European Union.
Modern.az reports that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this while presenting the government's program for 2026–2031 in parliament.
According to Pashinyan, the preparation process for Armenia's EU membership will begin in the near future.
The Prime Minister stated that this process will also be carried out at the request of Armenia's partners in the Eurasian Economic Union. Pashinyan also noted that Armenia's rapprochement with the European Union causes concern in Russia.
According to him, the main reason for this concern is the transformation process that Armenia is currently undergoing. The Prime Minister stated that the development of relations in various directions in Armenia's foreign policy is carried out within the framework of the country's long-term interests.
Thus, the Armenian government is preparing to enter a new stage in deepening relations with the EU. The fact that the country currently continues its relations with both the EU and the EAEU brings the issue of balance in Yerevan's foreign policy back to the agenda.
