French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he will have a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian today.
Modern.az reports that Macron made this statement to journalists at a press conference held in Yerevan.
"I will speak with the President of Iran in the near future. One of the main topics of the conversation will be the situation in the Strait of Hormuz," Macron said.
He emphasized that France has long supported the "restoration of freedom of navigation" in the Strait of Hormuz.
Macron added that France, together with Great Britain, is putting forward initiatives towards the creation of an international defense maritime coalition. The goal is to ensure the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
It should be noted that the Strait of Hormuz is a strategic waterway through which approximately 20 percent of global oil supplies pass.
