Russia's ambassador to Armenia, Sergey Kopyrkin, has been recalled to Moscow for consultations.
Modern.az reports that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement about this.
The statement from the agency said that the decision was made against the backdrop of steps taken by the Armenian leadership towards rapprochement with the European Union.
"Sergey Kopyrkin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia, has been recalled to Moscow for consultations in connection with the steps taken by the Armenian leadership towards rapprochement with the European Union, which harm cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union," the statement said.
It should be noted that official Moscow has repeatedly expressed its concern about Yerevan's expanding ties with European structures and its rapprochement with the West in recent times.
