Interesting details have emerged regarding the “Filo Jet” passenger ship that sank off the coast of Northern Cyprus a few days ago. Striking details have been revealed in the investigation into the sinking of the ship, which had 267 people on board. What makes the incident even more mysterious is that the ship was not allowed to leave the port due to weather conditions before going out to sea, yet it departed afterwards and began to sink just 15 minutes later.
Modern.az reports, citing official statements, that the ship's departure was initially not permitted due to bad weather conditions. After approximately a one-hour delay, the ship left the port. However, there is also a striking fact regarding the technical condition of the “Filo Jet” before the incident. It is reported that the ship underwent a technical inspection by Türk Loydu at the “Akdeniz Tersanesi” approximately two months ago. Despite this, shortly after going out to sea, the ship began to take on water.
Witness statements regarding the incident also reveal points that could change the direction of the investigation. According to survivors, the ship made unusual movements and a loud noise came from its bow before it started taking on water. Subsequently, water began to fill the inside of the ship. Some passengers also claimed that the crew did not provide the necessary instructions regarding the use of life jackets. These are currently witness statements and have not been officially confirmed.
Currently, the main hull of the ship is at a depth of approximately 514 meters. For this reason, the ship's “black box” is of particular importance in determining the cause of the accident. Officials also state that reaching the “black box” is crucial to fully determine the cause of the accident.
Thus, the investigation considers its main goal to be determining by what decision the ship, which was not allowed to depart due to bad weather, was sent off, why the ship, which underwent a technical inspection two months ago, began to take on water within 15 minutes, and most importantly, finding the “black box” at a depth of 514 meters.
The detention of 8 crew members, including the captain, also indicates that the investigation is not solely based on weather conditions. The main questions awaiting answers regarding the sinking of the “Filo Jet” can only be clarified after the results of this investigation.
