Bernadette Chirac, the widow of former French President Jacques Chirac, has died at the age of 93.

Modern.az reports that the French press has released information about this.

Bernadette Chirac was the first and only First Lady in French history to hold an elected political office.

She was elected to the Sarran municipal council in the Corrèze department in 1971 and served as the department's general counselor from 1979 to 2015.

Jacques Chirac, who led the country from 1995 to 2007, and Bernadette Chirac met while studying at the Paris Institute of Political Studies and married in 1956.

Their marriage lasted for over 63 years, until Jacques Chirac's death in 2019.
