Half of Iran's frozen shares may be returned in the initial stage of negotiations with the US.

Modern.az reports that "Mehr" news agency spread information about this.

"Iran proposed that half of these funds be unblocked in the initial stages of the memorandum, and the other half during the final agreement, but this proposal was not accepted by the American side," the report said.

It was noted that the Qatari side tried to eliminate the problem with a new plan:

"According to this plan, Iran will receive 12 billion dollars, which includes the unblocking of Iran's 6 billion dollars in frozen assets in Qatar and an additional 6 billion dollars in the form of a loan or credit line.

According to the 2023 agreement between Iran and the US (during the government of the late President Ibrahim Raisi), 6 billion dollars from Iran's assets in Qatar should be directed to humanitarian needs. It was also decided that the procedure for spending these funds will be subject to the same framework agreement as before".
