US President Donald Trump said he was surprised to see Iranians crying at the funeral of Iran's late supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that Trump spoke about current issues at an event in South Dakota to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence.
He said about the ongoing funeral of Ayatollah Khamenei in Tehran:
"I was surprised to see Iranians crying. Because I thought people hated Khamenei."
Trump said that Iranians were given a week for the funeral: "We gave them a week-long break for the funeral, because we are good people."
Iran's former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died on February 28 as a result of an attack by the US and Israel, is being laid to rest. His p will be buried in Mashhad on July 9.
