Turkey has signed another important project that expands the capabilities of unmanned marine systems in the defense industry.

Modern.az reports, citing Turkish media, that MARLIN, Turkey's first unmanned surface marine platform, now has the capability to lay sea mines. The system can lay mines both in fully autonomous mode and via remote control.

The MARLIN project was carried out by "Sefine" and "Aselsan" companies under the coordination of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency (SSB). The "Malaman" mines used within the project were developed in cooperation with "Sefine", SISAM and KocDefense companies.

According to the information, the engineering and production stages of the project were completed in approximately one year, the necessary algorithms for mine laying were developed, and tests were carried out on the system.

The new capability further expands MARLIN's role among the unmanned systems of the Turkish Naval Forces. Thus, it becomes possible to lay sea mines without the direct participation of the crew.

Turkey's development of this technology allows the use of unmanned marine platforms not only in reconnaissance, observation and patrol missions, but also in more complex military tasks.

MARLIN's ability to lay mines in both autonomous and remote-controlled modes places Turkey among a limited number of countries with this capability.

In recent years, Turkey has paid special attention to the development of unmanned marine platforms, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles. The new result obtained in the MARLIN project is considered as the next stage in the development of unmanned naval forces for Ankara.
