The Israel Defense Forces found the remains of soldier Yehuda Katz, who went missing during the First Lebanon War in 1982 during the Battle of Sultan-Yacoub, 44 years later.

Modern.az reports, citing local media, that Katz was the last of three Israeli soldiers who went missing after the Battle of Sultan-Yacoub, which took place on June 10-11, 1982.

The Battle of Sultan-Yacoub is considered one of the most severe confrontations of the First Lebanon War. During the battle, Israeli forces were surrounded by the Syrian army. As a result of the confrontation, the Israeli side lost 8 tanks, dozens of soldiers were killed and wounded, and three soldiers went missing.

Over the years, investigations continued to determine the fate of the missing soldiers. The remains of two of the three soldiers were returned to Israel in 2019 and 2025, respectively.

Yehuda Katz was the last Israeli soldier to go missing in that battle and whose remains were found.

The identification of his remains after 44 years is considered the result of many years of searching in Israel.
