US President Donald Trump has ordered a halt to talks with Iran.

Modern.az reports that, according to senior US officials who spoke to CNN, the reason for Trump's decision is Iran's unwillingness to compromise in the talks.

According to the information, the US leader's son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner, Vice President J.D. Vance, and special envoy Steve Witkoff have been instructed not to engage in dialogue with Iranian representatives.

According to US officials who spoke to CNN, the White House has also backed away from attempting to “defeat” Iran “as quickly as possible.” Instead, Washington is reportedly favoring a strategy of “strangling” Iran over time.

This decision comes after Trump had previously repeatedly stated that talks with Iran were going well and that a new agreement could be reached soon.

On August 17, sources for “Al Arabiya” TV channel reported that an agreement had been reached between Washington and Tehran to extend the ceasefire for another 60 days.

However, after this, Trump announced on the “Truth Social” social network that “no talks or contacts are currently being held or planned” with Iran.

The US president also stated that the naval blockade of Iranian ports continues.

According to Trump, the Strait of Hormuz has been cleared of mines and is open for shipping.

Thus, a new phase in Washington's strategy regarding Iran is reportedly beginning. The White House plans to prioritize increasing long-term pressure on Tehran instead of direct diplomatic negotiations.

Sources who spoke to CNN said that the Trump administration expects Iran to make concessions, and if this does not happen, it will continue to use economic and other means of pressure.
