One of the highest traffic indicators of recent years has been recorded at the "Upper Lars" automobile crossing point between Russia and Georgia.
According to Modern.az, citing Russian media, approximately 20 thousand people have passed through the checkpoint in the last 24 hours.
Due to the congestion at the border, the waiting time is reported to have increased to 2.5 hours. Amidst the high passenger and vehicle flow, the Russian side's customs and border services have switched to an enhanced mode of operation.
Additional staff have been involved and queues have been strengthened at the checkpoint to manage queues faster and increase throughput.
According to the information, this level of activity at the border has not been observed in the last few years.
"Upper Lars" is one of the main routes for automobile communication between Russia and Georgia. The checkpoint faces high passenger and vehicle traffic, especially during the summer months and tourist season. The excitement is claimed to be related to the announcement of mobilization after the elections to the Russian Duma in September.
