The Iraqi authorities have decided to restrict the commemorative events to be held in the country in connection with the funeral ceremonies of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Modern.az reports that "Shafaq News" portal spread information citing sources.
According to the information, farewell ceremonies will be organized on July 8 only in the provinces of An-Najaf and Karbala, which are considered sacred for Shiites.
It is reported that the Iraqi government refused to hold mass marches and other commemorative events in the capital Baghdad, despite Tehran's pressure.
According to the portal, this step aims to demonstrate the new Iraqi government's intention to pursue a more balanced foreign policy, especially on the eve of Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi's planned visit to Washington.
