In Kazakhstan, the previous presidential terms of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will not be legally taken into account.

Modern.az reports that this was stated in the decision of the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan.

According to the decision, after the 2026 Constitution comes into force, persons holding state positions in accordance with the 1995 Constitution may be re-elected or appointed to those positions after the new Constitution comes into force.

This decision allows President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to run again in the next presidential elections.

It should be noted that a new Constitution came into force in Kazakhstan on July 1. According to the new version, the country's president is elected for a term of 7 years and the same person cannot be elected to this position twice. However, the explanation of the Constitutional Court indicates that Tokayev's previous presidential terms will not be counted within the framework of the new constitutional rules.
