Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gifted pistols with their names engraved on them and ammunition to European Union officials and a number of European leaders after the NATO summit in Ankara.
Modern.az reports that, according to Politico, among those who received gifts were European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, and other European leaders.
According to the information, Antonio Costa's security service immediately took the weapon for examination. According to European officials, due to strict legislation on firearms circulation in Belgium, it is unlikely that Costa and Ursula von der Leyen will keep these gifts personally.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten decided to keep the pistols they received in Turkey so that they could be rendered unusable. A representative of the Dutch government confirmed that the weapon presented to Rob Jetten remained at the embassy in Ankara.
It should be noted that the NATO summit was held on July 7-8 at the Beştepe Presidential Complex in Ankara. Leaders of 32 member countries of the alliance and delegations from other states participated in the summit. Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen represented the European Union.
