Approximately one million fans took to the streets of Madrid to celebrate the Spanish national team's World Cup victory.

Modern.az reports that in yesterday's World Cup final, the Spanish national team defeated Argentina 1-0 with a goal scored in extra time, becoming champions for the second time in their history.

Upon returning home, the team was received by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain at Zarzuela Palace. The footballers then headed to the residence of the country's Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.

After the official events concluded, the bus carrying the national team's footballers traveled through the central streets of Madrid towards the city hall. Despite the hot weather, hundreds of thousands of fans along the route showed their support for the team with national flags and team jerseys.

According to local authorities, approximately one million people came out onto the streets of the capital. The celebrations are expected to continue until late at night. Championship festivities in Madrid began on July 19 during the daytime.
