World-renowned chess player Judit Polgar refused the offer to be a candidate for the President of Hungary.

Modern.az reports that on Sunday, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar proposed Judit Polgar, the only female chess player who has been in the top ten of the world rankings not only among women but also among men, as a candidate for the presidential post.

The Prime Minister believed that Polgar's election to this position, which has mainly symbolic powers, could contribute to strengthening national unity in the country after Viktor Orban's more than 15 years in power. Her candidacy was also supported by the deputies of the ruling “Tisa” Party.

However, 50-year-old Judit Polgar posted on her social media account on Monday, stating that she was grateful for the offer, but was not ready to take on “the historical responsibility of uniting the nation.”

Polgar added that she is ready to provide all necessary support to the future president.
