French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his country has strengthened control at the Spanish border, stating that they stand in solidarity with Spain regarding the migration situation in Ceuta.

Modern.az reports that Macron shared this on the X social network.

He stated that he contacted the Spanish Prime Minister regarding the situation, expressed solidarity, and offered support if necessary, including through Frontex.

Macron emphasized that cooperation with Morocco continues, noting that as a result of this cooperation, more than 40,000 migrants have already been returned from Ceuta to Morocco. According to him, the interior ministers of France and Spain are constantly monitoring the situation.

The French President reminded that free movement from Ceuta to other parts of the Schengen area is not possible. However, he stated that he instructed the interior minister to strengthen control at the Spanish border if necessary. For this purpose, mobile forces, aviation assets, and unmanned aerial vehicles have been deployed to the border.

Macron added that the measures taken complement the border protection mechanisms implemented since 2020 and strengthen coordination between France and Spain in the fight against illegal migration.

He also emphasized that the flow of illegal migration to the European Union decreased by 25 percent last year, and the decrease continues on the Atlantic and Western Mediterranean routes in 2026.

Finally, Macron once again expressed solidarity with Spain, its government, and its people on behalf of the French government and people.
