The Iranian army has announced that the country's military doctrine has shifted from a defensive to an offensive character.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by the spokesman of the Iranian army, Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia.
According to him, this change gradually formed based on the experience gained during recent wars. Akraminia stated that the new approach does not necessarily mean carrying out preemptive attacks.
According to the general, one of the main elements of the new military doctrine is an immediate response to any attack against Iran, and the response can be on a larger scale than the initial attack.
Akraminia said that Iran's faster and larger-scale response measures during previous wars influenced the formation of the new strategy.
The Iranian official's statement comes at a time of increased tension between the US and Tehran and confrontation around the Strait of Hormuz. In recent days, the Iranian side has been sending messages that it could respond more harshly in the event of an escalation of military confrontation.
