Two Turkish F-16 fighter jets have been deployed to Latvia as part of NATO's mission to protect the airspace of the Baltic countries.
Modern.az reports that two F-16 aircraft of the Turkish Air Force landed at Latvia's Lielvarde military base.
Turkish aircraft were previously deployed at Estonia's Amari airbase, where they participated in NATO's air policing mission in the Baltic region.
The ceremony for the arrival of the aircraft in Latvia was attended by Latvian Defense Minister Rayvis Melnis, Turkish Ambassador to Latvia Ahmet Cemil Miroğlu, and military personnel.
The involvement of Turkish F-16s in the mission further highlights Ankara's role in NATO's collective security system, including the defense of the Alliance's northeastern flank.
