Bangladesh is considering joining the possible defense cooperation format between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Mohammed Kabir, advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
According to him, Dhaka bases its foreign policy on the principle of “Bangladesh First” and evaluates cooperation opportunities in line with the country's national interests.
“Bangladesh is committed to the "Bangladesh First" policy and is ready to consider the possibility of participating in an economic or defense alliance, taking into account national interests, as well as the changing international situation,” Kabir noted.
The advisor stated that the main criterion for Bangladesh in any new regional or international cooperation format will be the country's security and economic interests.
This statement was made at the time of the signing of the "Mecca Agreement" in the field of defense between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey.
Bangladesh's possible participation could lead to a further expansion of security ties between South Asia, the Middle East, and Turkey.
It is reported that if Dhaka joins such cooperation, the format could cover economic, defense, and strategic areas.
