Gasoline prices in Iran are being doubled.
Modern.az reports that starting from September 8, the price of gasoline purchased with fuel station cards in Iran will be doubled.
Government representative Fateme Mohajerani stated that the price of one liter of gasoline under this tariff will increase from 5,000 tomans to 10,000 tomans.
However, preferential tariffs for the public will remain in effect. Drivers will be able to purchase 60 liters of gasoline per month at 1,500 tomans per liter, and an additional 50 liters at 3,000 tomans.
Individuals who purchase fuel exceeding these limits or do not have a personal fuel card must use the station's card. In this case, one liter of gasoline will cost 10,000 tomans.
For example, if a driver previously paid 250,000 tomans for an additional 50 liters of gasoline, that amount will be 500,000 tomans starting from September 8.
It should be noted that state subsidies are applied to gasoline in Iran. Due to the fact that fuel demand in the country exceeds production, gasoline is imported from abroad. Cheap fuel prices are considered one of the factors contributing to increased smuggling.
Increasing fuel prices in Iran is a sensitive issue. In 2019, the increase in gasoline prices led to mass protests in the country.
