In 2025, a decrease was recorded in the number of foreign tourists visiting Azerbaijan, as well as Azerbaijani citizens traveling abroad. Nevertheless, expenditures in the tourism sector continued to be measured in billions of manats.
Modern.az reports that this information was provided in the State Statistical Committee's publication "Tourism in Azerbaijan".
According to statistics, the total number of foreigners and stateless persons who visited Azerbaijan last year was 2 million 570.2 thousand people. This is 46.5 thousand people less compared to 2024. 1 million 804.8 thousand people of those who came to the country traveled for tourism purposes. For comparison, in 2024, this figure was 1 million 855.1 thousand people.
The majority of those who came to Azerbaijan for tourism purposes were those who traveled for recreation and entertainment. Thus, 1 million 111.1 thousand people came to the country for this purpose. In addition, 396.9 thousand people traveled for business, 20.1 thousand people for treatment, 2 thousand people for religious pilgrimage, 233.5 thousand people to visit relatives and friends, and 41.2 thousand people for other tourism purposes to Azerbaijan.
The report also included indicators related to the travels of Azerbaijani citizens to foreign countries. According to the information, in 2025, the number of Azerbaijani citizens who went abroad was 2 million 109.9 thousand people. This figure was 2 million 158.9 thousand people in 2024. 1 million 280.8 thousand people of those who traveled abroad left the country for tourism purposes. A year ago, this figure was 1 million 365.6 thousand people.
Of the Azerbaijani citizens who went abroad for tourism purposes, 574.9 thousand people traveled for recreation and entertainment, 277.6 thousand people for business, 42.6 thousand people for treatment, 28.7 thousand people for religious pilgrimage, 308 thousand people to visit relatives and friends, and 49 thousand people for other purposes.
According to the State Statistical Committee, in 2025, the amount of expenses incurred by tourists visiting Azerbaijan for tourism purposes in the country was 3 billion 258.1 million manats. This figure is lower than the 3 billion 403.5 million manats recorded in 2024.
At the same time, the expenses incurred by Azerbaijani citizens during their travels to foreign countries for tourism purposes also decreased. Thus, last year 2 billion 33.6 million manats were spent for this purpose. However, in 2024, this figure was 2 billion 219 million manats.
